NEWPORT, NH – Newport escaped with a 47-41 over Stevens in one of the state’s biggest rival games on Monday night.

The crowd went silent early in the game as NHIAA DIII leading scorer Taylor Fellows fell to the ground holding her left knee in pain. Fellows missed the entire season in her junior year with an ACL injury to the other knee. She came into the game with 1,000 points on her radar.

The Tigers were led by a game- and season-high 17 points from senior Skylar Nelson, junior Zoey Lord pitched in with 16 points and senior Cassie Sanborn contributed with 9 points.

Stevens freshman Bailey Morin, who happens to be the granddaughter of Newport Head Coach Ross Dole, poured in 14 points, including two big threes to lead the Cardinals late comeback. Stevens overcame an early 32-16 deficit in the second quarter to make a game of it late in the fourth quarter with a furious comeback.

With the win, Newport improves to 11-3, while Stevens falls to 4-9.
