Campbell survives Hopkinton, advances to quarters

CAMPBELL, NH – Campbell escaped with a win against Hopkinton, 52-48, in an extremely tight Division III first round game on Tuesday night.

The Cougars led by 10 at the half, 24-14, before Hopkinton stormed back with 18 points in the third to cut the lead to 6 points. Campbell was able to weather the storm and ended up with the four-point win.

Logan Rice led the Cougars with 18 points, while Jack Breton added 11 as well. The team collectively went 7-9 from the line in the fourth quarter to seal the deal. Campbell moves on to play St. Thomas in the quarterfinals in in an intriguing 4 vs. 5 seed matchup.

Hopkinton’s Chase Lawler had eight fourth-quarter points, before leaving with a minute to go with an apparent injury. Lawler had 14 for the game. His teammate Ben Normand finished with 14 as well. With the loss Hopkinton’s season comes to a close at 7-10.
