EAST SWANZEY, NH – No. 5 Monadnock narrowly escaped No. 12 Kearsarge in double overtime, 48-45, in Division III first-round action on Wednesday night.
Going into halftime down 21-18, Kearsarge would surge in the third quarter, scoring 17 to lead 35-30 going into the final frame.
Monadnock would own the fourth, holding the Cougars to just two points, while five players scored for the Huskies.
Eight points through both overtime’s would be enough for the Huskies to complete the first round victory.
Bailee Soucia led the way with 15 points for the home side, while Cainen Avery added 10.
Naimah Wilson paced the Cougars’ scoring with a game-high 19, while Ava Shapiro drained four from downtown as part of her 12-point tally.
Monadnock advances to the quarterfinals and will travel to No. 4 Gilford on Saturday. Kearsarge finishes its season at 8-11.
