Groveton’s late rally stuns Farmington

FARMINGTON – Trailing Farmington by seven points with less than three minutes to play, visiting Groveton reeled off a 15-0 run and pulled away to a 59-52 victory on Friday night.

The Tigers came out of the gates strong, leading 16-7 after one quarter of play. The Eagles battled back in the second to cut the halftime lead to two, 28-26.

Farmington controlled the third quarter and half of the fourth quarter and looked poised to come away with the win. Groveton trailed 48-41 before they went on a 15-0 run to take a 56-48 lead. All told, the Eagles would end up closing the game on a 18-4 rally to earn the stunning victory.

Groveton was paced by 16 points from Brody Platt, 15 from Ashton Kenison and 10 by Konner Shannon.

Demery Hadges put on a show for Farmington as he poured in a game-high 26 points, including two dunks. Noah Elwell chipped in with 10 for the Tigers as well.

With the win, Groveton improves to 7-3 on the season, while Farmington drops to 5-5.
