Defense leads Belmont past Fall Mountain

Keegan Martinez poured in a game-high 19 points to lead #7 Belmont to a 52-36 victory over #10 Fall Mountain in first round action of the NHIAA Division III Boys Basketball State Tournament on Tuesday night.

The Red Raiders advance to the quarterfinal round where they will take on #2 seeded St. Thomas on Friday in Dover.

The Belmont defense was on point as the Raiders allowed just 11 first-quarter points and then no more than nine in any of the final three quarters.

Anakin Underhill also netted double-digits with 16 for Belmont, who shot just 6-14 (42.9%) from the charity stripe as team.

The Wildcats were led by nine points from Owen Riendeau as Fall Mountain’s season comes to a close with a 9-10 record.
