MILFORD, NH – It was a game of runs in Milford on Friday night and when the final horn sounded, Oyster River escaped with a 63-58 victory over the host Spartans in a pivotal Division II match-up.
The Bobcats entered the game with just two losses (6-2), while Milford had just one loss (6-1).
The host Spartans jumped out to a quick 13-6 lead after on quarter of play, but Oyster River reeled of a 17-7 second quarter to take a 29-26 lead to the break.
The two squads played even for the third quarter and the Bobcats appeared to have the game locked up in the fourth as they pushed their lead to as many as 11. Milford responded by cutting the lead to two, but their comeback bid came up short.
Vivian O’Quinn led all scorers with a game-high 21 points for Oyster River, while Olivia Anderson (18) and Ashling Ferris (14) had big contributions as well.
The Spartans were paced by 14 points from Avery Fuller, 13 from Shea Hansen and 10 from Ellianna Nassy.
With the win, Oyster River improves to 7-2 on the season and sits in third place in the D-II standings. Milford falls to 6-2 and is now in a three-way tie for fourth.
