Milford hangs on to capture first title since 1979

DURHAM, NH – Second-seeded Milford captured its first title since 1979 with a 43-36 win over No. 4 Oyster River in the NHIAA Division II Girls Basketball State Tournament at UNH on Saturday afternoon.

Vivian O’Quinn started off hot for Oyster River, draining two threes in the opening minutes of the game, to give the Bobcats a quick 6-0 lead. The Spartans chipped away at the lead and cut the lead to one, 12-11, at the end of the first quarter.

Alexia Bausha scored six points in the first and second stanzas to pace Milford. Despite her efforts, it was Oyster River who took the lead at half, 20-17.

The third quarter belonged to the Spartans who closed out the period on an 8-3 run, taking a 31-27 lead into the fourth.

The four seed would fight back in the fourth, cutting the lead to three with under two minutes remaining. Down the stretch Avery Fuller and Ellianna Nassy would close out the game from the free throw line.

Bausha scored a game-high 21 points for Milford, while Fuller added 10 of her own. O’Quinn led the way for the Bobcats win 13.

Milford punches ticket to first state final in 44 years

DERRY, NH – No. 3 Milford punched its ticket to the state final for the first time since 1981 with a 37-29 Division II semifinal win over No. 2 Derryfield on Wednesday night at Pinkerton Academy.

The Spartans led 26-25 heading in the final frame before holding the Cougars to just four points in the last quarter.

Claire Cote scored 11 to pace Milford, while Angie Kenison tallied 10 for Derryfield.

Milford will match up against No. 4 Oyster River at UNH on Saturday at 12 noon.

Derryfield ends its season with a 17-4 overall record.

Milford handles Coe-Brown, advances to D-II semis

MILFORD, NH – Second-seeded Milford used a strong second half to advance to the Division II semifinals as the Spartans defeated No. 10 Coe-Brown 55-42 on Saturday.

The Spartans were led by 14 points from Shea Hansen who knocked down four first-half three-pointers to give Milford a 26-21 lead at the break. Avery Fuller added 12 for the Spartans.

Coe-Brown was paced by a game-high 19 points from Hannah Meehan.

Milford moves on to play No. 3 Derryfield in semifinal action on Wednesday at Pinkerton Academy at 5:00 p.m.

Milford tops Pembroke in regular-season finale

MILFORD, NH – Milford clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Division II state tournament with a key 47-35 victory over visiting Pembroke on Friday night.

Shea Hansen led Milford with a team-high 16 points, while Lulu Maguire added 13 of her own.

Pembroke was paced by Kate Stephens game-high 18 points and 11 from Anne Phillips.

Milford closes the regular season at 15-3, while Pembroke falls to 14-4.

Milford eases past Hollis-Brookline

MILFORD, NH – Milford eased past visiting Hollis-Brookline, 52-22, on Tuesday night in Division II action.

The Spartans were paced by 15 points from Lulu Maguire and 12 from Avery Fuller.

With the win, Milford moves to 14-3 and sits tied for third in the D-II standings. The Cavaliers finish the regular season at 8-10.

Williams beats the buzzer for Hollis-Brookline at Milford

MILFORD, NH – Hollis-Brookline’s Alton Williams beat the buzzer to give the visiting Cavaliers a 53-52 victory at Milford on Tuesday night.

Williams finished with a team-high 19 points for HB, while Yarie Ramas and Dylan Kelles netted 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Spartans were paced by a game-high 21 points from Will O’Connell and 15 from Tyler Constable.

With the win, the Cavs finishes the regular season at 14-4, while Milford falls to 5-12.

Milford wins big D-II showdown with Derryfield

MILFORD, NH – In a battle between two of the top teams in Division II, Milford grinded out a 37-35 over Derryfield on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 12-3 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 14-2.

Avery Fuller led Milford with nine points, while E LaFlamme paced Derryfield with 11 points.

Manchester West tops visiting Milford

MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester West got back in the win column following its 54-42 win over Milford on Tuesday night.

Tevin Edmunds paced the way for the Blue Knights, scoring 19 points. Max Houde buried four from deep en route to 17 points of his own.

Tyler Constable scored 13 to lead the Spartans, while Matt Gaumont and Will O’Connell both scored 11.

Following the win, West improves to 12-4 and Milford falls to 5-10.

Milford flies past ConVal, moves to 11-3

MILFORD, NH – Nine Spartans scored as Milford cruised past ConVal on Friday night, 56-17.

Avery Fuller led Milford with 13 points and Claire Cote added 10. The Cougars were paced by six points from Savannah McCarthy. 

With the win, Milford improves to 11-3 on the season. ConVal falls to 0-13.
