Newmarket upsets Groveton, punches ticket to title game

For the first time in program history, the Newmarket girls are headed to the state finals as the #3 Mules knocked off #2 Groveton, 29-26, in the semifinal round of the NHIAA Division IV tournament on Tuesday night at Bedford High School.

Newmarket will take on undefeated top seed Littleton on Saturday for the title at Colby Sawyer College in New London at 1:00 pm.

If you like defense, then this one was for you. In a surprise to no one, two of the top defensive teams in the division put the clamps on each other in a game that featured just 19 made field goals combined.

The Mules trailed 7-4 after one and 14-13 at the half, but held the Eagles to just 12 points in the second half to come way with the victory.

Amaya Beckles led all scorers with a game-high 10 points for Newmarket, while Groveton was paced by 8 points from Aspen Clermont.

Groveton denies Colebrook in first round

Second-seeded Groveton defended like they have all season long as they defeated No. 15 Colebrook, 50-35, on Tuesday night in first round action of the NHIAA Division IV Girls Basketball State Tournament.

The Eagles advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on #10 Profile on Friday.

Groveton upsets Gorham in first round

Tenth-seeded Groveton went on the road and won a defensive battle at Gorham, 35-27, on Monday night in first round action of the NHIAA Division IV Boys Basketball State Tournament.

With the win, the Eagles advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on #2 Littleton on Thursday.

Groveton held Gorham to just nine made field goals for the entire game, six of which were three-pointers.

The game was tied at 15 at the half and Groveton led by one after three, before outscoring Gorham 16-9 in the final frame to pull away.

Kaden Cloutier led all scorers with 13 points for the Eagles, while the Huskies were paced by 10 from Brendan Saladino.

Littleton rolls past Groveton

Littleton improved to 15-2 on the season with a 64-46 win over visiting Groveton on Friday night.

The Crusaders are tied for second in the Division IV standings with Derryfield. The Eagles end their regular season with a 9-9 mark and currents sits in 10th place.

Blistering start leads Littleton past Groveton

In a showdown between the top two teams in Division IV, Littleton opened the game on a 20-3 run in the 1st quarter and went on to earn the win over visiting Groveton, 41-36, on Friday night.

With the win, the Crusaders improve to a perfect 17-0 and will look to finish off the perfect regular season when they travel to Colebrook on Monday night. The Eagles fall to 15-2 on the season, with both losses coming to Littleton.

Addison Pilgrim (14 points) and Addison Hadlock (10) led the Crusaders, while Delaney Whiting paced Groveton with 13.

Leslie leads Profile past Groveton

Senior Alex Leslie poured in 25 points, including 10 in the 4th quarter, to lead Profile to a 65-39 win at Groveton on Tuesday night.

Karsen Robie (12) and Cayden Wakeham (11) also added double digits for the Patriots, while the Division IV leading scorer Josh Robie was held to just 10 points.

The Eagles were led by 24 points from Hunter Parks.

With the win, Profile pushes its perfect record to 16-0, while Groveton falls to 9-8 on the season.

Woodsville pulls away from Groveton in the 4th

Visiting Woodsville pulled away from Groveton in the 4th quarter on Saturday to come away with a 55-43 win.

Landon Kingsbury led the way for the Engineers scoring 20 points, going 12/13 at the line, while Connor Newcomb added 12. Hunter Parks had a team high of 11 for the Eagles. 

With the win, Woodsville improves to 11-2 on the season, while the Eagles (7-7) fall to .500 on the year.
