Newmarket flies past Franklin

NEWMARKET, NH – No. 4 Newmarket scored 33 second-half points en route to a 55-23 victory over No. 13 Franklin on Monday night in round one of the Division IV state tournament.

Jaron LaBranche led the way with 20 points for the Mules, while Nick Minutelli added 17. 

Cody Williams scored a team-high 13 to lead the Golden Tornadoes. 

Newmarket will face No. 5 Gorham in the quarterfinal round, while Franklin’s season comes to end at 9-10.

Memorial downs Merrimack in D-I match-up

MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Memorial inched closer to clinching a Division I home playoff game with a 72-51 win over visiting Merrimack, 72-61, on Friday night.

With the win, the Crusaders improve to 10-7 on the season and are tied for eighth in the D-I standings with Windham. Memorial closes out the regular season at Trinity on Tuesday.

The Tomahawks fall to 8-9 on the season and currently sit 13th in the standings.

Royal duo combines for 63 as Mascoma rolls to semis

CANAAN, NH – Tanner Moulton (33 points) and Bryce Ballou (30) combined for 63 points to lead No. 2 Mascoma Valley to an 87-53 victory over No. 7 Newport on Friday night to advance to the Division III semifinals.

The Royals will take on No. 3 Kearsarge on Wednesday at 6:00 pm at Bow High School.

Christian Forsythe pumped in a game-high 35 points to lead Newport, while Aaron Fellows added 16.

Portsmouth pours it on at Pinkerton

DERRY, NH – Isaiah Reis (25 points) and Derek Swartz (24) combined for 29 points to paced Portsmouth to an 82-71 victory at Pinkerton on Friday night.

The Clippers started fast as they pumped in 25 first-quarter points and never looked back.

Anthony Ferola (15) and Ryan Swartz (11) also tallied double-digits for Portsmouth.

Cristian Brander, Brady Sullivan and Jasaiah Molina all netted 15 points apiece, while Josh Phanor added 10 for the Astros.

With the win, Portsmouth improves to 14-3 on the season, while Pinkerton falls to 5-12.

Bow eases past Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, NH – Bow eased past host Plymouth, 52-29, on Friday night in Division II action.

The Falcons were led by a trio of double-digit scorers as Brendan O’Keeffe netted 13 points and Owen Reardon and Peyton Larrabee added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

With the win, Bow improves to 11-5 on the season. Plymouth falls to 0-18.

Top-seeded Great Bay wins YSCC quarterfinal

PORTSMOUTH, NH – Theo Wolfe poured in a game-high 31 points to lead top-seeded Great Bay to a 103-74 victory over visiting Paul Smith College in the quarterfinal round of the Yankee Small College Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Mpore Semuhoza also netted 21 points for the Herons and Ethan Arnold (Kingswood) and Ethan May (Londonderry) scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Great Bay advances to the semifinals to take on No. 4 Albany Pharmacy on Saturday, March 1 at Southern Maine Community College.

Goffstown closes out Spaulding

GOFFSTOWN, NH – With the game tied at 45-45 after three quarters of play, Goffstown closed out the fourth quarter and came away with a 67-57 victory over visiting Spaulding on Friday night.

The Grizzles were led by 20 points from Tyler Dionne, 18 by Isaiah Santos and 11 from Gio Santos. The Raiders got 20 points from Marcel Rose.

Goffstown finishes the regular season on Tuesday at Portsmouth. Spaulding travels to Bedford on Tuesday for their last game of the season, as well.

Defending champion St. Thomas upsets Campbell

LITCHFIELD, NH – The defending champs aren’t done yet. No. 5 St. Thomas went on the road and knocked off No. 4 Campbell, 71-66, in quarterfinal action of the Division III state tournament on Friday night.

Sophomore sensation Cole McClure scored 30+ points for the second-straight game to pace the Saints in the victory. Just days after scoring 35 against Prospect Mountain in first round play, McClure dominated once again, burying five threes en route to a game-high 32 points.

Finley De Tolla added 19 points of his own to the tally, while Anthony Settineri chipped in with 11.

Logan Rice scored 18 of his team-high 28 in the second-half for the Cougars, with Jack Breton scoring 19 for the home side.

The Saints punch their ticket to the semifinals and will take on No. 1 Belmont on Wednesday at 8:00 PM at Bow High School.

Campbell ends its season with a 15-3 record.

Third quarter surge sends Oyster River past Manchester West

DURHAM, NH – Oyster River used a 24-9 third quarter to erase a seven-point halftime deficit and come away with a 61-60 victory over visiting Manchester West on Friday night.

The Blue Knights led at halftime 34-27, but the Bobcats took the lead in the third by outscoring West 24-9 and never looked back. Oyster River connected on 13 three-pointers on the night.

The Bobcats were paced by Brenden Kirby (17 points), Owen Jacques (14) and Cole Dulac (12). Max Houde led Manchester West with 19 points, followed by 14 from Tevin Edmunds and 11 from Christoper Mejia.

The Blue Knights conclude their regular season with a home bout on Tuesday against Pelham, while Oyster River hosts Hanover on Tuesday.
