Pembroke downs MV, advances to semifinals

No. 3 Pembroke defeated No. 11 Merrimack Valley, 54-47 in quarterfinal round action of the NHIAA Division II State Tournament on Friday night.

The Spartans advance to the semifinals where they will take on No. 2 Hanover on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. The location of the semifinals is still to be determined.

Merrimack Valley beats the buzzer in OT thriller

It’s not quite March yet, but there was madness last night in Laconia. Trevor Simonds’ three-pointer as time expired gave #11 Merrimack Valley a 60-57 overtime win at #6 Laconia in first round action of the NHIAA Division II Boys Basketball State Tournament.

MV advances to the quarterfinal round where they will take on #3 Pembroke on Friday at 7:00 pm.

The Pride were held to just four 1st quarter points and trailed 9-4 at the end of the opening stanza. But, they battled back to take a one-point halftime lead, 22-21.

The two teams played even for the second half as an overtime session was needed to decide this one.

Simonds and Aiden Gray paced MV with 16 points apiece, while Andrew Suprenaunt added 11. The Sachems were led by a game-high 20 points from Keaton Beck, 17 from Logan Sanchez and 11 from Caden Tucker.

Horne leads Merrimack Valley past Oyster River

Annika Horne poured in a game-high 26 points to lead Merrimack Valley to a 67-56 victory at Oyster River on Friday night.

Kayla Smith and Isabelle Navoy chipped in with 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Pride. The Bobcats were led by 25 points from Wren Horne and 15 from Maeve Hickok.

With the win, MV improves to 7-8 on the season, while Oyster River falls to 10-5.

Merrimack Valley beats the buzzer and Lebanon

Tied at 34-34, Merrimack Valley’s Buddy Eddy drove the lane and connected on the game-winning lay-up to lift the eighth-seeded Pride to a 36-34 win over #9 Lebanon on Wednesday night in Penacook.

MV advances to take on top-seeded Laconia on Friday at 7:00 pm.

The Pride was held to just 10 first-half points and trailed 20-10 at the break, but poured in 17 points in the third quarter to cut the Raiders lead to three, 30-27, heading to the final stanza.

Merrimack Valley put the clamps on the Raiders in the fourth, holding Lebanon to just four points.

Eddy led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, while Dawson Bates led Lebanon with 12 points.

Langlois tallies 500th win as West downs MV

Manchester West jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and hung on for a 61-54 victory over visiting Merrimack Valley on Tuesday night. The victory marked the 500th career win for West head coach John Langlois.

Max Shosa poured in 27 points, while Angel Castro (14) and Aiden Scott Beaulac (10) both netted double figures as well for the Blue Knights. Brandon Dukette pumped in 27 points as well for the Pride, while Buddy Eddy added 14.

West has now won four-straight and improves to 7-2 on the season, while MV snapped a three-game win streak and falls to 8-3.

MV’s pressure stymies Plymouth

The Merrimack Valley defensive pressure proved to be too much for Plymouth on Tuesday night as the Pride put the clamps on the Bobcats to come away with a 56-23 win.

MV held Plymouth to just one point in the first and fourth quarters. The Pride were led by 15 points from Brandon Dukette and 12 from Logan Gabour.

The win improves Merrimack Valley to 7-2 on the season, while Plymouth falls to 2-6.
