GROVETON, NH – No. 7 Groveton trailed by as many as 17 points before battling back to force overtime and coming away with a hard-fought 82-80 victory over visiting No. 10 Epping in a Division IV first-round battle on Monday night.
The hosts found themselves down double-digits headed into the fourth, with the visitors up 56-44.
The momentum in the fourth would turn in favor of the Eagles, who managed to put up an electrifying 29 points in the final frame. The flurry was capped off by a Brody Platt three-pointer with 5 seconds left to send the game to OT, tied at 73-73.
Groveton would outscore Epping 9-7 in the extra period to earn the victory. Hunter Parks was crucial for Groveton, scoring his season-high 34 in the win. Ashton Kenison would also add 20+ points, scoring 26.
Epping was paced by 22 points from Henry Hodgkins, while Cam Kavanaugh added 14. Blake Snyder and Ben Follensbee would round out the double-digit scoring, each with 12.
Groveton will head down to the state capital to take out unbeaten No. 2 Concord Christian Academy in quarterfinal action on Thursday night. Epping ends their season with a 9-10 record.
