North Country heavyweights collide

By: KJ Cardinal

All eyes are on the North Country tonight with two highly anticipated heavyweight match-ups in Division IV action. The Profile boys play host to Woodsville and the Groveton girls welcome Littleton. We will be bringing you photo coverage from both and both games can be seen live on Northeast Sports Network (Links below). Let’s take a look inside both big match-ups tonight…

BOYS: Woodsville at Profile, 7:00 pm – WATCH LIVE

Profile currently sits at 5-0 and is playing some impressive basketball after the Patriots steam rolled the competition at the Mike Lee Holiday Basketball Bash. Seniors Josh Robie and Alex Leslie led Profile to victories over D-I Windham, D-II Sanborn and Coe-Brown and D-IV unbeaten Derryfield (7-0) at The Bash.

Head coach Mitchell Roy has his team playing at a high level early in the season, but they face the biggest hump they have yet to get over: Woodsville.

The three-time defending champion Engineers have had the Patriots’ number, having swept the season series last year and knocking Profile out of the playoffs in the quarterfinal round in February. Jamie Walker’s Engineers are off to a 4-1 start this season, with their lone loss coming to Littleton (6-0) prior to the break.

GIRLS: Littleton at Groveton, 5:00 pm – WATCH LIVE

It’s a battle of the unbeatens for the girls when Groveton (7-0) and Littleton (6-0) meet tonight. The host Eagles have been absolutely dominant on both ends of the court this season as they’re holding opponents to just 20 points per game while winning by an average margin of 37 PPG.

The numbers aren’t quite as staggering for the Crusaders as they’re giving up just under 25 PPG with a margin of victory of just over 33 PPG, but they do boast a convincing 47-28 victory over Woodsville (6-1) prior to the holiday break.

Groveton and Littleton split the season series last year with the road team winning both contests.

NOTABLE

• The Profile-Woodsville girls game is also a pivotal D-IV match-up as both squads sit a 6-1 on the season and tied for third in the standings behind Groveton and Littleton. WATCH LIVE

• The Littleton boys (6-0) are considered to be the top team D-IV by many and are also undefeated on the season. The Crusaders take on 4-2 Groveton. WATCH LIVE
