Newfound earns tough win at White Mountains

WHITEFIELD, NH – Newfound uses balanced scoring attack to earn a 60-58 victory at White Mountains on Thursday night.

Landin Sargent piled in 13 points to lead the Bears, while Kasen Smith dropped a season-high 31 points, including all 12 of the Spartans’ fourth quarter points in the loss.

With the win, Newfound improves to 2-1, while White Mountains remains winless and drops to 0-3.

White Mountains rolls past Newfound

WHITEFIELD, NH – White Mountains started hot and stayed hot in its 54-14 home victory against Newfound on Thursday night.

Harper Rowe had a game high 14 points, including 4 from beyond the arc, while Mackie Foss added 10 for the Spartans.

White Mountains wins its first game of the year, moving to 1-2. Newfound drops to 0-3 following the loss.

Daven Reagey’s nine threes lead Littleton past White Mountains

WHITEFIELD, NH – Freshman Daven Reagey connected on nine three-pointers, including seven in the 1st half, as Division IV Littleton went on the road and defeated D-III White Mountains, 81-64, on Monday night.

Daven Reagey was hot coming out the gate as he knocked down four triples in the 1st quarter, but the Crusaders trailed 20-18. Littleton then reeled off a 27-19 2nd quarter to take a 45-39 lead to the break.

The 2nd half belonged to the Crusaders, outscoring the Spartans 36-25 to cruise to the 17-point win.

Daven Reagey finished with 29 points, while brother Sam added 24 points of his own. Ryan Mahy added 10 for Littleton as well.

WMRHS was paced by 23 points from Aiden Whipple, 14 from Kasen Smith and 11 from Tommaso Paluello.

With the win, the Crusaders improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 0-2.

Third-quarter barrage leads Gilford past White Mountains

GILFORD, NH – Gilford used a 29-17 third quarter to pull away from visiting White Mountains, 70-55, on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Golden Eagles led by two at the half, 25-23, but outscored the Spartans by 12 points in the third quarter.

Gilford was paced by 17 points from Brendan Baldi, 16 from Cooper Perkins and 10 from Mark Uicker. Kasen Smith led White Mountains with a game-high 18 points, while Tommaso Paluello (12) and Aiden Whipple (11) chipped in with double-digits as well.

NHIAA preseason heats up

Just like the unseasonably warm weather, the 2024-25 NHIAA season is beginning to heat up as well.

Yesterday marked the first practice date for Division IV squads with many holding tryouts around the state. D-III follows suit next week (Nov. 25) with D-I & D-II just seven days later as well (Dec. 2).

The D-IV season official tips off with 2024-25 opening night being held on Friday, Dec. 6, while Divisions I, II & III throw it up on Dec. 13.

Before we get to the regular-season slate, however, there are six official NHIAA sanctioned preseason jamborees on the docket. Check out the events below as this will be your first chance to see these squads in action…

St. Thomas downs White Mountains, cruises to semis

Top-seeded St. Thomas cruised to a 56-27 victory over #9 White Mountains on Saturday night to advance to the semifinal round of the NHIAA Division III Girls Basketball State Tournament.

The Saints will take on #4 Kearsarge on Wednesday, February 21 at Bow High School at 7:30 pm.

Mascoma Valley advances to semis on buzzer beater

A deep three by Brayden Pierce beat the buzzer and gave #3 Mascoma Valley a 62-59 overtime victory over #6 White Mountains on Friday night in quarterfinal action of the NHIAA Division III State Tournament.

The Royals advance to the semifinals where they will take on #2 St. Thomas on Tuesday. The site is still to be determined.

Pierce led all scorers with a game-high 23 points for Mascoma, while James Thomas added 12. The Spartans were led by a trio of double-digit scorers: Avery Woodburn (21), Aiden Whipple (17) and Kasen Smith 12.

White Mountains upsets Prospect Mountain

No. 9 White Mountains weathered an early run on the road and blew the game open in the second half to defeat #8 Prospect Mountain, 53-39, in Alton in first round action of the NHIAA D-III state tourney on Wednesday night.

The host Timberwolves came out the gate fired up as they jumped out to a quick 9-2. White Mountains would chip away at the lead and tied things at 22-22 just before half.

The second half belonged to the Spartans. White Mountains outscored Prospect 16-9 in the 3rd and 15-8 in the 4th to advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on top-seeded St. Thomas on Saturday.

The Spartans featured a balanced offensive attack as four players scored in double figures: Ciera Challinor (13), Olivia Lorenz (10), Harper Rowe (10) and Ainsley Savage (10). Prospect was paced by a game-high 19 points from Sophia Capsalis.

White Mountains cruises past Raymond in 1st round

Kasen Smith poured in 6 threes, including four in the first quarter, en route to 20 points as he led #6 White Mountains past #11 Raymond, 68-47, on Tuesday night in first round action of the NHIAA Division III Boys Basketball State Tournament.

The Spartans advance to the quarterfinal round where they will take on #3 Mascoma Valley on Friday.

Trevor Armstrong (12), Avery Woodburn (10) and Aiden Whipple (10) all netted double-digits as well for White Mountains. The Rams were paced led by 18 points from Caden Claytor and 14 from Dre Duffaut.

Raymond’s season comes to a close with an 8-10 record.
