Goffstown races past Blue Devils

Fourth-seeded Goffstown used a 24-point third quarter to defeat #13 Salem, 58-30, on Tuesday night in first round action of the NHIAA Division I Girls Basketball State Tournament.

The Grizzlies advance to the quarterfinals where they will host #5 Pinkerton on Friday at 7:00 pm.

The Blue Devils kept the affair low scoring in the first half and trailed 21-14 at the break, but Goffstown blew things open in the third behind 13 points in the quarter from senior Ava Winterburn. The Grizzlies outscored the Blue Devils 24-7 in the stanza and rolled to a 28-point victory.

Goffstown was led by a game-high 25 points from Winterburn, while Maggie Sasso also added 19 for the Grizzlies. Pacing Salem was Ayla Regan with a team-high 14 points.

Goffstown downs Pinkerton

In Division I girls action, Goffstown defeated visiting Pinkerton, 56-46, on Tuesday night.

Ava Winterburn led the Grizzlies with a game-high 23 points, while Meredith Winterburn added 11 and Ava Ruggiero had 10. The Astros were paced by 18 points from Liz Lavoie and 12 from Sydney Gerossie.

Grizzlies claw Warriors

Goffstown defeated visiting Winnacunnet, 68-52, on Friday night in Division I action.

The Grizzlies were led by 21 points from Ryan Strand and 15 points from Noah Durham. Jared Khalil led the Warriors with 18 points, while Josh Schaake added 15

With the win, Goffstown improves to 7-9, while Winnacunnet falls to 9-7.

Goffstown’s Winterburn drops 41 again

Ava Winterburn continues to stay red hot as the senior pumped in 41 points for the second consecutive game to lead Goffstown to a 68-53 win at Londonderry on Thursday night.

The Grizzlies and Winterburn got off to a slow start as they trailed by three after one quarter, 15-12, and she was held to just four points. Winterburn turned it off after that as she scored 10 in the second, 11 in the third and 16 in the fourth.

Maggie Sasso (13) and Ava Ruggiero (10) also chipped in with double-digits for Gofftown who improves to 13-3 on the season.

The Lancers (8-7) were led by 18 points from Samantha Sullivan and 13 from Brooke Eacrett.

Winterburn torches Tomahawks

Ava Winterburn poured in an impressive 41 points to lead Goffstown over visiting Merrimack, 72-32, on Wednesday night.

Winterburn had 15 in the first quarter, 13 in the second and 10 in the third before playing limited minutes in the fourth where she netted three. Ava Vaughan added 10 points for the Grizzlies as well.

Madison McCaffery paced the Tomahawks with 16 points.

Grizzlies sink Green Wave

Behind a game-high 24 points from Ryan Strand, Goffstown cruised to a 64-38 victory over visiting Dover on Monday night.

Colin Buckley chipped in with 13 points for the Grizzlies, while Dover was paced by Stephen Gitau’s 15 points.

Goffstown improves to 6-8 on the season and Dover falls to 5-10.

Portsmouth downs Goffstown, spoils Winterburn’s 1000-point night

Portsmouth went on the road and defeated Goffstown, 62-49, on Wednesday night in Division I girls action. Despite the loss, Ava Winterburn netted the 1,000th point of her career for the Grizzlies, becoming just the second female in school history and seventh overall to reach the milestone.

The Clippers were led by a trio of double-digit scorers: Margaret Montplaisir (16), Avery Romps (15) and Bridget Emery (14). The host Grizzlies were paced by a game-high 27 points from Winterburn.

With the win, Portsmouth improves to 12-1 on the season, while Goffstown falls to 10-3.

Nashua South comes-from-behind at Goffstown

Nashua South got off to a slow 18-5 start after one quarter, but the Purple Panthers chipped away at the Grizzlies lead and came away with a hard-fought 57-53 victory at Goffstown on Tuesday night.

Zac Castonguay (16 points), Josh Caruso (15) and Denis Wainaina (10) all scored in double-digits for South, who improves to 9-2 on the season. The Grizzlies were led by 18 points from Cam Hujsak, all coming from behind the arc, as Goffstown falls to 4-7.
