Bedford closes out South to advance to finals

Top-seeded Bedford finished strong as the Bulldogs cruised past No. 4 Nashua South, 79-56, on Wednesday night in semifinal action of the NHIAA Division I Boys Basketball State Tournament at Exeter High School.

Bedford advances to the championship game where they will take on No. 2 Pinkerton on Sunday at the University of New Hampshire at 7:00 pm.

Both teams came out firing as South led after one quarter of play, 24-20. The Bulldogs then settled in defensively and cut the Purple Panthers productivity in the second quarter in half to tie things up at the break 36-36.

Leading by three entering the fourth, 51-48, Bedford flexed their muscle in the final stanza, winning the quarter 28-8 and rolling to a 79-46 win.

Caden Brown led Bedford with 21 points, while Luke Soden (18 points), Aiden O’Connell (17) and Brady O’Connell (11) all netted double-figures as well.

South was led by a game-high 23 points from Alize Roig Cortes, 14 from Josh Caruso and 12 from Zac Castonguay.

Nashua South comes-from-behind at Goffstown

Nashua South got off to a slow 18-5 start after one quarter, but the Purple Panthers chipped away at the Grizzlies lead and came away with a hard-fought 57-53 victory at Goffstown on Tuesday night.

Zac Castonguay (16 points), Josh Caruso (15) and Denis Wainaina (10) all scored in double-digits for South, who improves to 9-2 on the season. The Grizzlies were led by 18 points from Cam Hujsak, all coming from behind the arc, as Goffstown falls to 4-7.

North downs South

Nashua North defeated crosstown rival Nashua South, 54-47, on Sunday afternoon in front of a full house at Belanger Gym. Trevor Labrecque led the Titans with a game-high 23 points, while Zac Castonguay paced the Purple Panthers with 16 points and Josh Caruso added 12.

Exeter pulls away late from South in D-I prelims

Behind a game-high 21 points from Johnny Meyer, seventh-seeded Exeter pulled away late from #10 Nashua South to come away with a 67-58 victory in the preliminary round of the NHIAA DIvision I Boys Basketball State Tournament on Wednesday night. 

Aaron Share and Ryan Luper chipped in with 19 and 18 points, respectively, to bolster the Blue Hawk attack. Zac Castonguay led the Panthers with 16 points, while teammate Josh Caruso connected on five triples to tally 15 points as well.

Exeter advances to the quarterfinals where the Blue Hawks will take on second-seeded Nashua North.

Dover comes back to down Nashua South, wins fifth straight

Trailing by eight points entering the fourth quarter, Dover outscored Nashua South 21-11 in the final stanza to come away with a 58-56 win on Tuesday night. The Green Wave push their win streak to five, after starting the season 0-4, and improve to 5-4 on the year, while the Purple Panthers fall to 5-7.
