Saint Anselm Holds Off Molloy at Home

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Saint Anselm rode a hot shooting night from senior Josh Morissette and a pair of double-doubles from sophomores Will Davies and Jovan Ristic to outlast Molloy, 97–92, in a high-paced non-conference matchup Saturday at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Saint Anselm (3–1, 0–0 NE10) leaned on Morissette’s perimeter scoring to spark the offense early, as the senior guard (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) poured in 21 points on five three-pointers. Davies recorded the first double-double of his career with 15 points and 10 assists, adding four rebounds and two blocks, while Ristic contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.

Freshman Hayden Johns had a career-high 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting, and Isaiah Griffin added 11 points, including nine from the free-throw line. Paulius Rapolis and Jack Medalie added 10 and six points, respectively, as Saint Anselm continued to find balance across its rotation. The Hawks shot 54 percent from the field and piled up 48 points in the paint while going 25-for-39 on two-point attempts.

The game featured 19 lead changes and five ties, with Saint Anselm building its largest first-half lead at 53–38 before Molloy closed the gap to 54–46 at halftime. The Lions briefly retook the lead midway through the second half, but Saint Anselm regained control behind a 7–2 run capped by Griffin’s trips to the line. Layups from Morissette, Johns, and Medalie on three straight possessions restored momentum, and a finish inside from Medalie marked Davies’ 10th assist of the night as the lead stretched to 85–78.

Johns added two more finishes at the rim in the closing minutes, and Davies knocked down a pair of late jumpers to secure the Hawks’ second straight home win.

Saint Anselm travels to Franklin Pierce on Nov. 25 for a 5 p.m. tipoff.

St. Anselm survives St. Michael’s in overtime

MANCHESTER, N.H. — After 40 minutes of evenly matched basketball, Saint Anselm took control in overtime and powered its way to an 85–78 victory over Saint Michael’s on Wednesday night at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Saint Anselm (2–1, 0–0 NE10) leaned on balanced scoring and timely execution, highlighted by Jovan Ristic, who finished with 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting along with seven rebounds. The Hawks also got a strong night from Josh Morissette (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy), who added 13 points and knocked down three threes.

Jack Medalie added 11 points and hit three threes of his own, while Edward Onyia provided 13 points and eight rebounds in an efficient outing inside. Will Davies contributed nine points and ten assists as Saint Anselm found answers throughout a game that featured 12 ties and 18 lead changes.

The Hawks elevated their play in overtime, shooting 60 percent from the floor and going 8-for-8 at the line. Key threes from Jack Medalie and Jakye Rainey helped Saint Anselm seize control early in the extra session, and the Hawks’ 49–34 rebounding advantage provided needed separation down the stretch.

Saint Anselm returns to action on Nov. 22 vs. Molloy College at 1:00 PM at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in Manchester.

St. Anselm defeats visiting Assumption

MANCHESTER, NH – St. Anselm improved to 5-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play with a 70-61 victory over visiting Assumption on Thursday night.

The Saints came out firing as they poured in 20 first-quarter points to take a nine-point lead after one, 20-11. The two teams then played even the rest of the way as St. Anselm held on for the win.

Melanie Hoyt led all scorers with a game-high 25 points for the Saints, while Tatum Forbes added 17. Marina Callahan paced the Greyhounds with 23 points.

With the win, St. Anselm improves to 8-3 on the season, while Assumption falls to 10-3 and 3-2 in NE10 action.

Saint Anselm comes up just short versus Felician

MANCHESTER, NH – Saint Anselm came up just short versus Felician, 75-73, on Saturday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Josh Morissette (Exeter) led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, while Zac Taylor (18) and Erik Oliver-Bush (10) added double-digits as well for the Hawks.

With the loss, St. A’s falls to 6-4 overall, 3-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

NCAA Rewind: Two Granite State squads remain unbeaten

Introducing our NCAA Rewind. At various points throughout the season, we’ll give a look back on recent NCAA play around the state, breaking things down by Division with records, recent results and upcoming opponents.

The 2024-25 season is off and running for the 18 NCAA teams around the Granite State. The Colby-Sawyer women (4-0) and Plymouth State men (2-0) are the only undefeated teams in the state, while the UNH women are off to a strong 4-1 start.

Early season action is typically comprised of non-conference match-ups and the competition levels can vary rather significantly. Let’s take a quick look back at each team’s start to the 2024-25 campaign and where they’re off to next…

DIVISION I

UNH WOMEN
Record: 4-1

Coming off a pair of victories over teams from Boston, the UNH women improve to 4-1 on the season. This past week, the Wildcats went on the road to defeat Northeastern, 58-31, before besting BU yesterday, 69-60, at Lundholm Gym in Durham, N.H. The Wildcats look to complete the Beanpot trifecta on Wednesday as they head to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to take on Boston College at 6:00 PM.

DARTMOUTH MEN
Record: 2-2

After winning its first two games of the season versus VTSU Lyndon and Sacred Heart, the Dartmouth men have dropped two straight to UAlbany and Boston University to even their record to 2-2 on the season.

Next up for the Big Green is a trip to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. as they take on Marist on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

DARTMOUTH WOMEN
Record: 2-1

Behind 14 points from junior Clare Meyer, the Dartmouth women defeated visiting UMass Lowell, 57-41, on Saturday afternoon at Leede Arena in Hanover, N.H. With the win, the Big Green improve to 2-1 on the season and next host Vermont on Monday at 7:00 PM.

UNH MEN
Record: 1-5

The UNH men have dropped four straight, including a pair of contests the last two days to Brown and Sacred Heart at Brown’s College Hill Classic in Providence, R.I. The Wildcats return to action today as they take on Holy Cross at 3:30 PM in their final game at the event.

DIVISION II

SAINT ANSELM WOMEN
Record: 2-1, 1-0 NE10
Behind a career-high 31 points from Melanie Hoyt, including the game-winning basket with 7 seconds left, the Saint Anselm women defeated visiting AIC on Wednesday night to win their NE10 opener and improve to 2-1 on the season. The Hawks host Saint Michael’s on Wednesday at 5:30 PM.

SAINT ANSELM MEN
Record: 1-2, 0-1 NE10

The Saint Anselm men have lost its NE-10 conference opener on Saturday versus American International, 91-82, to fall to 1-2 on the season. Next up, the Hawks host Saint Michael’s on Wednesday at 7:30 PM.

SNHU MEN
Record: 1-2

A little home cooking was all the SNHU men needed to get their first win of the season, a thrilling come-from-behind 79-77 win over visiting Bloomfield on Saturday in Manchester, N.H. Junior transfer Ray Daniels poured in a team-high 24 points to pace the Penmen to the victory. Next up, SNHU heads to New Haven, Conn. on Wednesday for its first Northeast-10 Conference game of the season as they take on Southern Connecticut State at 7:30 PM.

SNHU WOMEN
Record: 1-2

After winning their season opener versus Post, the SNHU women have dropped two straight to Bloomfield and Dominican (N.Y.) to fall to 1-2 on the young season. SNHU opens up conference play on Wednesday at Southern Connecticut State at 5:30 PM.

FRANKLIN PIERCE WOMEN
Record: 1-3, 0-1 NE10

The Ravens have dropped their last two outings and currently sit at 1-3 on the season. The FPU women lost to Caldwell yesterday, 54-46, at the 11th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament in Orangeburg, N.Y. The Ravens play their final game in the event today at 2:00 pm versus host Dominican (N.Y.) at 2:00 PM.

FRANKLIN PIERCE MEN
Record: 0-4, 0-1 NE10

Coming off an 81-75 loss to New Haven on Saturday, the Franklin Pierce men dropped to 0-4 on the season. The Ravens will look for their first win of the season today as they take on Dominican (N.Y.) at 4:00 PM at the 12th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament in Orangeburg, N.Y.

DIVISION III

COLBY-SAWYER WOMEN
Record: 4-0

The Colby-Sawyer women are off to a hot 4-0 start as they boast the state’s best mark in NCAA play. The Chargers have defeated VTSU Lyndon, VTSU Johnson, Thomas College and most recently a close 56-51 win at Wellesley. Next up for CSC is an interstate showdown as they host Plymouth State on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at the Hogan Sports Center in New London, NH.

PLYMOUTH STATE MEN
Record: 2-0

After two convincing victories over Elms and VTSU Johnson to open the season, the Plymouth State men are 2-0. Exeter’s Kevin Henry is leading the way for PSU on the young season with 18.0 points per game. Next up, the Panthers host interstate foe New England College on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.

NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE WOMEN
Record: 3-1

The New England College women pushed their win streak to three with Saturday’s victory over VTSU Johnson, 66-34, at the VSU Lyndon Tournament in Lyndonville, Vt. The Grims take on tourney host VSU Lyndon today at 2:00 PM.

RIVIER MEN
Record: 3-1

The Rivier Raiders lost their first game of the 2024-25 season on Saturday as they were tripped up at Roger Williams, 103-89. The Raiders opened the season with three-straight wins over Mass Liberal Arts, Hartford and Fitchburg State. Riv returns to action on Thursday at Lesley in Cambridge, Mass. at 7:30 PM.

PLYMOUTH STATE WOMEN
Record: 1-2

The Plymouth State women dropped their opening game at the Gene DeLorenzo Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday to Colby, 67-24, to fall to 1-2 on the season. Freshman Kaley Goodhart (Kennett) paces PSU on the season with 8.3 PPG. The Panthers now take on tourney host Thomas College today at 2:00 PM.

COLBY-SAWYER MEN
Record: 1-3

The Colby-Sawyer men have dropped back-to-back games to UMass Boston and Brandeis to fall to 1-3 on the season. Next up, the Chargers head to West Hartford, Conn. to take on Hartford on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.

RIVIER WOMEN
Record: 0-2

Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester Memorial) and Hannah Muchemore (Bishop Guertin) poured in 31 and 21 points, respectively, on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the Rivier women lost at WPI, 74-71, in Worcester, Mass. The Raiders return to action on Tuesday, looking for their first win of the season, at Brandeis at 6:00 PM.

NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE MEN
Record: 0-3

The New England College men are 0-3 to start the young season, with losses to Norwich, Dean College and Framingham State. The Grims look to get off the schneid on Tuesday with a Granite State showdown at Plymouth State at 6:00 PM.

SNHU completes season sweep of St. Anselm

Southern New Hampshire used an 11-2 run to start the 4th quarter to get separation from visiting St. Anselm and earn a 66-55 victory on Wednesday night in Manchester. The Penmen complete the season sweep over their Queen City rival with the win.

Jess Knight led SNHU with 24 points and 13 boards, while Adriana Timberlake and Meghan Gordon added 15 and 12, respectively. The Hawks were paced by 14 points from Melanie Hoyt and 12 from Alex Quirolo.

With the win, the Penmen improve to 11-5 (9-3 NE10), while St. Anselm falls to 11-5 (9-3 NE10). The Hawks leads the all-time series against SNHU 52-25, but the Penmen have won six of the last seven and four straight.

SNHU downs St. Anselm with largest win in series history

Trailing by nine halfway through the first half, Southern New Hampshire reeled off a 27-3 run, including 21 straight, to pull away and never look back versus visiting St. Anselm, 82-52, on Wednesday night in Manchester. The 30-point margin of victory is the largest ever in the storied Queen City rivalry between the two.

The Penmen were led by 21 points from Matt Becht, while Derrick Grant added 10 points and 14 rebounds. Noah Kamba (12) and Preston Santos (11) both notched double digits for SNHU as well.

Matt Becker paced the Hawks with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while sharp shooter Josh Morissette managed 10 points but was 0-7 from beyond the arc.

With the win, SNHU improves to 11-5 (7-4 NE10) on the season. St. Anselm falls to 8-10 (6-6 NE10). Saint Anselm leads the all-time series with SNHU, 41-37, having won 10 of the last 13 meetings, including nine of 10, but the Penmen have now captured three of the last four.

Morissette drops 44 to lead St. Anselm past Franklin Pierce

MANCHESTER – Behind a career-high 44 points and a program-record 12 threes from Josh Morissette, the St. Anselm men cruised to a 98-77 victory over visiting Franklin Pierce on Tuesday night in NCAA Division II action at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in Manchester.

An Exeter native and Wofford College transfer, Morissette went 12-for-15 from beyond the arc en route to his record-breaking performance versus the in-state foe.

Tyler Arbuckle (25 points) and Zac Taylor (10) also netted double figures for St. Anselm, while the Ravens boasted a quartet of double-digit scorers. FPU was led by Sean Trumper (20), Jarnel Snow-Guzman (13), Ugo Nwachukwu (13) and RJ Delahaye (10). Sophomore Andrew Politi (Trinity HS) scored 6 points for the Ravens as well.

St. Anselm improves to 4-4 on the season, 2-3 in Northeast-10 Conference action and FPU falls to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in NE10 play.
