ConVal downs Sanborn on the road

Behind a game-high 37 point from Joe Gutwein, ConVal went on the road and defeated Sanborn, 61-49, on Tueday night in Kingston.

The Cougars held the Indians scoreless in the first quarter of play, 12-0, and it proved to be the difference in the ball game. The Cougars led 30-9 at the half, but Sanborn came out firing in the second half and won the third frame, 25-16, to cut the lead the 12 heading into the fourth. The final stanza was back and forth and ConVal hung on for the victory.

Noah Stewart chipped in with 14 for ConVal, who improves to 8-3 on the season. Isaiah Reis netted a team-best 22 points for Sanborn, while Dylan Rego added 10. Sanborn falls to 2-8.

West cruises past ConVal

Manchester West defeated visiting ConVal, 88-61, on Saturday. The Blue Knights were led by their big three of Angel Castro (28 points), Max Shosa (24) and Aiden Scott-Beaulac (19). ConVal’s Joe Gutwein’s 21 points. West improves to 5-3 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 4-2.

Souhegan captures D-II title in overtime thriller

The top-seeded Souhegan Sabers captured the NHIAA Division II Boys Basketball State Championship on Sunday afternoon with a thrilling 53-51 overtime victory over #3 ConVal at UNH’s Lundholm Gymnasium.

Matt Canavan netted a game-high 19 points to pace the Sabers, while ConVal’s Joe Gutwein led all scoreres with a game-high 21 points. Check out the full photo gallery…

ConVal pulls away in 4th to advance to D-II title game

Third-seeded ConVal knocked off #2 Pelham, 58-47, on Tuesday night in semifinal action of the NHIAA Division II Boys Basketball State Tournament at Oyster River High School in Durham. The Cougars advance to the D-II championship game where they will take on #1 Souhegan on Sunday at the University of New Hampshire at 1:00 pm. 

ConVal was led by 21 points from Jake McGlinchey, while the Pythons were packed by 21 from Austin Knight. Check out the highlights from the action…

📰 Opening day is on the way

The wait is almost over. On Friday, December 10th, 84 of the 88 NHIAA boys varsity basketball teams will be in action with 42 games around the state as the 2021-22 season gets underway.

St. Thomas Aquinas hits the road to take on Hillsboro-Deering at 5:30 pm to mark the first official tilt of the new campaign. The Saints and Hillcats last squared off on February 28, 2020 in the regular-season finale as St. Thomas came away with an easy 72-46 victory at home.

Eight other contests tipoff at 6:00 pm, with 24 match-ups at 6:30 pm and nine more at 7:00 pm. It’s the most games on a single day all season long, so there’s no good reason to not get out and catch some local action on Friday night.
